Thanks everyone,

I might explain - my 'best of questions' (and there will be more) are due to situation that many of you may also be familiar with.

When it was rumoured that the SBDs were disappearing several years ago, and I didn't have high speed internet., a dear friend was downloading day and night and he sent me copies. On one single day I received a package with over 150 shows and adding that to the shows I already had ...

Well, to make a long story short - I tend to listen to my old favs over and over and over again - but I realize I have tons of shows which I have never even listened to in their entirety and before planting myself in front of the stereo for the next 20 years I am, instead, asking for your recommendations.

Perhaps, I only have sit in front of my stereo for 10 years then - : -)

Thanks

Here are a few more, several of these may have been mentioned already but here goes:
Spanish Jam:
74-06-23 Jai-Alai Fronton
http://www.archive.org/details/gd1974-06-23.sbd.matrix-sb21b.chappell.83489.flac16
Short but very very sweet Spanish Jam. Jerry's guitar is spine-tingling electricity and Phil's bass is spot on. Sweet transition in to a jammed out, rocking U.S. Blues

74-06-26 Providence Civic Center
http://www.archive.org/details/gd74-06-26.moore.weiner.gdADT17.16037.sbeok.shnf
Released on Dick's Picks 12 but this Jerry Moore AUD certainly does it justice. One of the longest Spanish Jams if not the longest and also, if I'm not mistaken, featuring a "Heaven Help the Fool" tease somewhere around minute 15.

70-02-11 Fillmore East
http://www.archive.org/details/gd1970-02-11.sbd.smith.patched.99154.sbeok.flac16
Spanish Jam with guests. The Dark Star->Spanish->Lovelight on this classic feature Duane and Gregg Allman, Peter Green, Arthur Love, Berry Oakley and allegedly Danny Kirwan. A bit messy at times but one hell of a mess.

68-2-14 is also great but not on the archive, though honestly any performance of this jam in that year is worthwhile.
As for later versions, they're not quite to the same level as the early versions but there are a couple decent ones in 81. 81-5-16 Barton Hall is a nice jammed out one and 81-8-12 "Spanish Space" is pretty nice.

Weather Report Suite:
I have to agree with 74-06-18 as just about as good as it gets though sadly unavailable thanks to the stupid Road Trips Series
Instead try these:
74-06-28 Boston Garden
http://www.archive.org/details/gd74-06-28.moore.weiner.gdADT18.16038.sbeok.shnf
Also from Dick's Picks 12. An epic version with a great LiG that goes into a Mind Left Body and Dark Star jam (called "Heaven Help the Fool Jam" on this source for no apparent reason)

74-07-19 Selland Arena
http://www.archive.org/details/gd74-07-19.sbd.symons.12381.sbeok.shnf
Right at the heart of an epic second set jam and this one is perfectly executed before falling away in to Eyes->China.

73-10-30 Kiel Auditorium
http://www.archive.org/details/gd73-10-30.sbd.powell.16818.sbeok.shnf
A really beautiful version that appears out of Eyes at the end of another epic jam.

73-09-24 Pittsburgh Civic Arena
http://www.archive.org/details/gd1973-09-24.mtx.tobin.95744.flac16
Not necessarily a greatest ever version but a nice one and my favorite of those that feature Joe Ellis and Martin Fierro on sax and trumpet. Also unique about this show is the first (and I think last) version of Nobody's Fault But Mine with lyrics since '66. Check it out!

Bet you dollars for doughnuts that's a "Sage & Spirit" tease rather than a "Heaven Help The Fool" tease ...

Well I could be wrong but I just listened to it again myself and I have to say that it sounds an awful lot like Heaven Help the Fool. This was before Bobby wrote Heaven Help but there are other examples of him playing riffs from songs before they were written, the Weather Report Suite riff in T.O.O. on 71-08-06 for example.
Anyhow, the "tease" starts at 14:56 and continues until the end on the Moore aud, not sure of the timing on the SBD. Listen and see what you think

Well I am probably just about the least musically inclined person around here, but I hear what you're talking about, and it does sound like the HHTF chords.

I was also kind of joking off the fact that I have trouble telling those two songs apart ... as far as I can tell it could be either one.

last month on this name. Even I was around before that, but didn't start posting until June '07. I can't really blame people for not wanting to jump in. For awhile there every new person was believed to be a troll/multiposter. Funny i believe mcglone recently referred to one of the incidents that kept me from posting for awhile.

I only started posting about a week ago. I have been on this site for downloading since before my twins were born Jan. 2002. I was stuck at home, doing covers and listening to the GD. Then the babies grew and my free time shunk :-)
